We are a touch over half way through our 2nd pregnancy. It has actually seemed long. Not because of how I've felt. I've felt great thus far. We've had a lot of stress about the best route for us to take to get the delivery we want. We've been doing a lot of research on VBACs (vaginal birth after cesarean), policies, statistics, etc... Our OB told us she would let us attempt one, but she was always so rushed with us and said if she felt she needed to intervene she would. After a lot of phone calls and more research, we decided to switch to our local birth center and use midwives. We had our first appointment this week, and they really put both of us at ease. They support our decisions to go all natural. Using different medical inventions, such as pitocin, increase our risk of uterine rupture. Epidurals slow down labor and delivery, and if the labor goes too slow it could force us into a c-section corner. The midwives told us they'd always be up front and honest with us about why they recommend something, but ultimately everything was up to us and they'd respect our wishes. Unfortunately, we have to have the baby at the hospital. I would rather have the baby at the birth center (I lost a lot of trust in the hospital after Emmett's birth), but we can't. Because of the small chance I could have uterine rupture, I still have to be at the hospital. We thought about a home birth for a brief moment, but Eric was not comfortable with that and honestly, I don't think I would have felt 100% comfortable either. We are praying and hoping for a far less dramatic delivery this time. We do realize a c-section is still a possibility, but we are hoping it's not our reality. The midwives claim a 70% success rate with VBACs. So, the hospital with midwives it will be.
On another note, we didn't find out the sex of the baby again. We will have yet another surprise. Hoping the rest of the labor is stress free and quick. Come on February! Ready to be a family of 4!
